Home Field Advantage

The residents of southwestern Pennsylvania are famous for their support of its sports teams. Whether its the Steelers, Pirates, Penguins, or Panthers, they love to cheer for a great performance.

Pittsburgh sports fans had another team to cheer -- 10,000 athletes from around the country who took part in the 2005 Senior Olympic Games, June 3-18. They competed in 18 Olympic-style sports including basketball, cycling, swimming, track and field, and road racing.

These unique athletes provided plenty of exciting moments for everyone as they strived for gold. As a fan or as a volunteer, lots of folks in the region were a part of the '05 Senior Olympic Games.

Cheer Them On!

All athletic competitions at the Games were free of charge for guests and spectators.

Guests and spectators had the option to purchase Guest/Spectator Credentials for $10 each to gain access to certain other events (some restrictions applied). Please refer to the Special Events Calendar for more information.

A Guest/Spectator Credential also granted the purchaser access to the Olympic Loop.  Please refer to How to Get Around for more transportation information or visit Athlete/Spectator Parking for non-resident athlete and spectator parking options during the Games.

Safety First

For the safety of everyone participating in the Games, only properly credentialed athletes and personnel were allowed on the field of play. (The definition of the field of play varied by sport and venue.) Photos, video recordings, or any other form of access to athletes on the field of play was prohibited during competition. Access to the field of play before or after competition was at the discretion of each Competition Manager.
